Biography

There are (at least) three acts with the name Major Major. (1) A four-piece UK alterna-pop group signed to Groove Labs, (2) a swedish alternative electro-acoustic songwriter signed to Background Noise, and (3) an indie-rock quartet hailing from Melbourne, Australia

(1) The UK Major Major are a local grand, alterna-pop group that has come from out of nowhere with a sound that’s just quirky enough for indie rock fans and also highly marketable. Their upcoming debut album, recorded and produced by local Lars Goransson arrives soon, and if they play their cards right the group will be set for certain heat-seeker status. Soaring vocals hijack the focal point of many of the songs with their sometimes Muse-esque method, and spacey keyboards fill out the four-piece rock sound nicely.

(2) Major Major is a one man’s show from Sweden creating vibrant songs with digital and acoustic tools. Recorded at home, the songs are often rough and unpolished but indeed vibrant and eclectic. His work is reminiscent to the nervous tense of Sparklehorse, the isolationism of Stina Nordenstam and the melody-empathized storytelling of Damien Jurado. The music is a mix of several genres and an extra flare is added by the occasional use of guest vocalists.

(3) Major Major were a indie-rock four-piece formed in 2006 from Melbourne, Australia, who have since disbanded. They released two EPs, one self-titled and 2008's 'Great Leagues'. The band originally played a brand of Weezer-inspired indie-pop but gradually moved into more sprawling, baroque rock as heard on their track 'The Beast'.
