Biography
Born in Dubai in a Lebanese family and growing up in Montreal, Joey Mallat was passionate about juggling. It’s when his juggling clubs got confiscated, that his sister’s abandoned guitar fell delicately into his hands. A note here, a note there, his long, skilful and precise fingers finally found their true purpose.
It’s, therefore, at the ripe age of 12yrs old, that a long, complex and intimate relationship developed between him and music. It allowed him to find a harmonious agreement between his two rich cultures, the Arab and the Franco-Quebec world. Thirsty for composition and for different eclectic styles, covering blues, folk, jazz, classical, instrumental and flamenco, he soon became a composer/song writer/player. Furthermore, his passion led him to discover other instruments, like the piano, percussions, oriental lute as well as beat-box.
That’s how Connu? came into fruition, a solo creation, that, a few years later, birthed Mysk. Besides his personal endeavors, Joey joined other artists, as a collaborator and musician, such as Labess, Créations Pluriels and a brand new trio, Trio Populaire.
Beside Mallat, the band consists of Pierre Emmanuel Poizat (Clarinette, Tenor Sax), Tacfarinas Kichou (Percusions), Ivan Bamford (Drums) and André Homayer Côté (Bass).
